Willkommen! 15th-20th September 2012
In September we welcomed our German partner school, the Heinrich- Boell school from Dortmund, Germany. When they arrived at Imberhorne Lane they were picked up by Imberhorne host families with students in Y8 and Y9. They spent the day together with their respective families; some going to London, some Brighton, some even went horse riding. On Tuesday 18th the German pupils came into school and were in normal lessons Periods 1,2 and 3. They found it really interesting to see our school uniform as they don’t have this in Germany. They then went to meet the Mayor of East Grinstead. On Thursday 20th it was time to leave but not before they had a farewell party at Upper school. Matt Didon in Year 12 provided a fantastic disco and Jo Lee from our canteen provided all the food - Thank you Matt and Jo!Our German friends had a fabulous time and one girl said it had been the best week of her life when she got back to Germany! We are hoping to do an exchange to Germany next year as there has been a lot of interest and the German school would love for us to go over there.Conall Tyne from Year 8 hosted a German student and here’s what he had to say:“I had a German Student named Calvin Moex to stay. We went to Brighton around the shops and he liked looking at English things. For Lunch we went to KFC, he had never been before. We went on the Brighton Eye and he was fascinated, he thought it was the London Eye. I enjoyed meeting other Germans and we exchanged numbers.”Jack Barnard, also from Year 8 thought the day with the German students was “a very good experience and we should do it more often. As the day went on as I got to know him, it was fun and enjoyable and he was a really nice person and it improved my German and improved his English.”
