Imberhorne Boys 'TRY' to Bring Home Silverware - 25th September 2012
A thrilling local rugby derby left honours even between Imberhorne and arch rivals Sackville on the big stage of East Grinstead Rugby Club’s magnificent pitches.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The under 14 team took on Sackville’s finest, and, after a nail biting, end-to-end battle prevailed over the blue team with a 24 V 20 victory. Man of the match went to full back, Shane Saunders. Our boys were playing for the newly-established Cooney Cup – named after a former Sackville student who passed away last year. The magnificent standard of rugby proved to be a fitting tribute to a young man who was passionate about the game. It was a rather different story for the under 16’s competing for the Newnham Shield – a tribute to long-serving Imberhorne PE teacher Barry Newnham. Imberhorne never really got going against a pumped-up Sackville team in a bruising contest which ended in Sackville’s favour 58 -5. Our Man of the Match was Jake Defriend.
