Design for a Better World
Students in Year 9, with the help of their Technology teacher, Mrs Gould, worked on a global sustainability project in the Autumn Term 2016. Students were required to develop an idea for a technology or product that can help reach at least one target for a Global Goal. They carried out research around the 'Goal' of their choice to enable them to identify a genuine problem to address, choosing between Zero hunger, Clean Water and Sanitation, Clean and Affordable Energy, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Climate Action.
Mrs Gould entered the students into a competition and we are delighted that four of our Year 9 projects were selected as winners. To help eliminate hunger. Oliver Burge designed an LED plant grower. Promoting gender equality, Camille French wrote a plan for ‘Gender defenders’. To create clean water and sanitation solutions for all, Josh Low created a water pump design and to help create affordable and clean energy, Morgan Mitchell designed a solar turbine. The students received their vouchers and certificates in assembly to celebrate their success.
